I haven’t just picked out realy loud alarm clocks, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, you may not want everyone in the house yelled out of bed at the same time. And secondly, some children are totally unresponsive to the traditional beep of an alarm clock, no matter how loud that beeping is.

Before we started to let clocks rule our lives, we followed the Sun to bed at night, and rose with it in the morning.

Our bodies are still programmed to wake when it gets light, so take that instinct and use it your advantage with a natural light alarm clock.

The alarm works by gradually increasing the brightness of the light for 30 minutes before the time you have set to wake up. This prepares your body for the morning, so when the radio / nature sounds alarm goes off, you can wake up gently.

This arrow shows what time it is OK to wake. So kids can see from the illuminated pictures whether ot not it is OK to get out of bed, and they can also see from the distance between the hour hand and the alarm arrow, if it is a long or short time until the morning.

There is also a digital display underneath the anaologue clock face to help kids learning to tell the time.

The alarm call can be set to bird song, cuckoo or train noises, and will gradually increase in volume until the child wakes and hits the snooze button.
